NatureMill compost bins are designed to make composting easy and convenient. With the help of technology, our composters deliver the same results as traditional composters in less time.
Saving the world by reducing waste is something most people want to do. Some conservation activities are easier said than done. Even for someone who already recycles and segregates trash, maintaining a compost pile for food waste takes extra effort and time.
NatureMill compost bins are equipped with intuitive technology which maintains the right temperature, air flow and moisture. The composting process is maintained at an optimal level. The temperature in our composters is high enough that even dairy, fish, and meat are safely handled. The constant temperature and air flow prevents odor and pest problems.
The process begins with natural microscopic organisms, or cultures. They must be introduced into the machine through food, air, or soil. Just a small amount of cultures are sufficient, such as those on a few banana peels, grape stems, or a few grams of garden soil. Even surrounding air, which is pulled into the machine on a regular basis, may provide sufficient cultures over the course of several days. Once the cultures are introduced into the machine, they reproduce at a rapid pace under the ideal internal conditions.
The most critical factor is temperature of 55-60ºC (130-140ºF) which allows the cultures to reproduce quickly. A small heater inside the machine helps to reach this temperature rapidly, before the natural heat develops and takes over the heating process. Constant oxygen flow is also required, and is provided by a small air pump. Oxygen flow also prevents the anaerobic conditions from emerging which could result in offensive odors. Finally, moisture level is controlled to prevent overly wet or dry conditions.
As the compost cultures multiply and thrive, they consume the food waste in much the same way humans consume food. Namely, they take carbohydrates and oxygen into their bodies, and they produce water and heat as outputs. The water is carried out of the machine by the air pump in the form of water vapor. Most of the heat, however, is retained inside the machine to help accelerate the next batch of cultures to reproduce and thrive.
With a NatureMill compost bin, the work becomes as easy as tossing kitchen waste into a waste bin: perfect for those who want to get into composting, but need an easier way to do it.
